Before we got her, she had gone to dog training school. While Nicky was there. she learned to sit, stay, lay down, roll over, and wipe her feet before she came in the house.
When Nicky was with us, my brother and I played catch with her. We would put leaves on stick and she would try to catch it, but she would eat the leaves. It was funny because she would get them stuck on her face. It was hilarious. She looked like a scarecrow.
On day, Nicky was outside tied up to a tree and our next door neighbor’s dog got loose. It got into a fight with Nicky. It left a big hole in her neck. The owner of the dog was tugging, and tugging on it, but it wouldn’t let go of our Nicky. Finally, it let go but, it left Nicky with a sore for two months. Everyday during those two months we watched Nicky when she went outside. We also had to put some medicine called hydrogen peroxide on the sore... it was a hassle. It was annoying because she wouldn’t sit still and would run around the house.
A couple of years later, Nicky was beginning to act strange. During the night she would make noises that sounded like she as choking. We decided to take her to the vets. The vet said that Nicky had cancer in her neck. She could only live for a few months or she could be put to sleep so she wouldn’t be in pain anymore. So the next day, was Nicky’s last day on Earth. Nicky had fun, but I didn’t. I still played catch with her, but I cried the whole time.
Then, I thought of an idea. I decided to keep all of her favorite toys like some leaves, sticks and her collar so I could remember her. The last day with Nicky was the best day I ever will have in my entire life .She acted normal. We played games with her like fetch and find the stick.
The next day, my mom and grandpa took Nicky to the vet to be put to sleep. So, my brother and I stayed at our grandparent’s house and practically cried our eyes out. When my mom and grandpa came home, my mom took us to our house and showed us where she was buried. Now, Nicky’s spirit is always with us... in the woods running around and eating leaves. I miss Nicky.
